In conjunction with the Ohio Veterans Home, the Ohio Veterans Home Museum co-hosts several events during the year as a part of the initiatives of the museum to support the local, regional, and national history of the American experience in war. The Ohio Veterans Home Museum hopes to offer more events in the near future to support the cause of the museum.
Over 2,000 visitors attended the Ohio Veterans Home Museum as it hosted its first annual Civil War Encampment in August 2013 in honor of the 150th year anniversary of the Civil War . The Civil War Encampment included a visit from Abraham Lincoln, artillery demonstrations, and tours of the museum. The Ohio Veterans Home Museum partners with the Johnson’s Island Preservation Society, the Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War, Ladies of the Grand Army of the Republic, and The Women’s Relief Corps for this event. Please check back frequently for up to date information on the next encampment.
The Ohio Veterans Home Museum hosts a number of open houses during the year, the most popular open house taking place at Christmastime. Please contact Jim Barnard at 419-625-2545 ext. 1447 for more information on this event.
